“Forward Redding”: Thank you to all who made this incredible mural possible! @telmomiel @reddingcityidentityproject
Internationally acclaimed dutch artist duo "Telmo Miel" is painting a mural in downtown Redding titled "Forward Redding". This evening, March 24th from 4-6pm there will be a meet & greet and presentation on the mural concept from the artists, as well as some words from City Councilwoman Julie Winter with Redding Chamber President & CEO Jake Mangas acting as emcee. We will gather in the south parking lot of the Placer Heights apartment building 1701 Pine Street. There will be light refreshments provided. We hope you`ll join us!
The mural is being installed on the south facing wall of the “Placer Heights” building on the southeast corner of Pine and Placer Street in downtown Redding beginning on Tuesday, March 21st.
This mural was birthed by Tyler Linahan of Redding Arts with the purpose of memorializing how the community came together with an outpouring of bravery and generosity to rescue and assist people, animals, and property from the Carr Fire in 2018. The display of courage, generosity, compassion, and unity speaks to the identity of Redding. The creators wanted an internationally acclaimed artist for this project and worked with Evoke Arts to obtain Telmo Miel to paint Forward Redding. Redding Arts, with the assistance of Julie Winter, began a private fundraising campaign and eventually merged the mural project with the Redding Chamber of Commerce’s Redding City Identity Project’s “Downtown Mural”.
This project was funded by numerous private citizens and was a collaborative effort with the Redding Chamber of Commerce, Forward Redding Foundation, Redding City Identity Project, Advance Redding, Viva Downtown, Visit Redding and Evoke Arts.
Special thanks to Cresco Rentals, Cascade Paint, Brent Weaver, Julie Winter, and Tyler Linahan for making this project happen.
