Mike grew up in Redding attending Cypress Elementary School, Sequoia Jr. High and graduating with the Shasta High Class of 1965. After high school he joined the US Marine Corps and served two tours of duty in Vietnam. He was awarded the Combat Action Ribbon following the 1968 Tet Offensive.
After finishing his enlistment in the Marines, Mike returned to Redding and graduated from Shasta College before going on to CSU-Chico to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration (MPA). His master’s thesis was a case study of the 1976 “Annexation of the Enterprise Public Utilities District to the City of Redding.”
After a short stint as a consultant with the California State Assembly he joined SECO in 1975 and became a partner in 1977. The company was sold to Trimble Navigation in 2008. Dahl stayed on with the company for an additional 5 years as the general manager and sales manager for North and South America. During his 38 year career with SECO he traveled the world including numerous business trips to China starting in 1990.
Mike retired from SECO in May of 2013 and started his own business consulting firm, Semper Fi Business Development and Consulting.
He was also elected and served two terms on the Redding City Council from 1986-1994; he was Mayor in 1987 (Redding Centennial Year) and 1991.
Mike is also a board member for the Shasta Historical Society, member of Vietnam Veterans of America, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.
Mike has three children. Jaime is his oldest. Both sons Matt (Marines) and Nick (Army, deceased) are decorated combat veterans from the Iraq War. He is the proud grandfather of Madison Dahl (Matt and Megan) who is 5 years old.
